Farragut Farinellas place at Father Ryan Invitational

In keeping with their state rankings, Farragut High School wrestling brothers A.J. and Ethan Farinella finished in the top six among 26 teams at the annual Father Ryan Invitational in Nashville Jan. 4-5

A.J., a senior in the 145-pound class ranked fourth in the state (Division I) placed fourth with a 5-2 record Friday and Saturday. The elder Farinella improved his overall record to 22-3.

Ethan, a sophomore at 119 ranked sixth in the state, was sixth at Ryan, 5-3 record.

The sophomore sported an 18-6 overall record entering the week.

“They wrestled a good tournament, both of ’em wrestled really tough,” FHS head coach Timothy Brunson said. “They really stepped it up when they hit the mat.

“A-J got in a couple of really good matches, he ended up scoring a lot of points and taking it to some really tough kids.”

With Farragut finishing 19th as a team, three other Admirals won at least one match. Greg Grieco (171-class) led the way with a 3-2 record, followed by Clayton Ginn (130) going 2-2 and Kevin Mann (125) ending 1-2.

“Clayton wrestled well ... lost a couple of real close matches,” Brunson said.

Other Admirals competing in Nashville were Lawton Johnson (152), Conner Johnson (140), Chris Berman (189) and Kevin Gayler (135).
