Culvert cleaner to hire engineer

The town of Farragut has requested that Jonas Holdeman hire a licensed engineer to review his construction of retaining walls on Town-owned property at 616 Fretz Road.

At the Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen Dec. 13 meeting at Town Hall, Mayor W. Edward “Eddy” Ford III and aldermen deferred the matter of demolishing the retaining walls until hearing from the Stormwater Advisory Committee.

The Town’s SAC heard Holdeman’s appeal of how the work was done Dec. 18.

“The S-A-C resolved to recommend that the Board have Mr. Holdeman retain the services of a licensed engineer to review the work and then make a recommendation to the Town engineer on whether it’s fixable, if anything is salvageable and how to proceed,” said Gary Palmer, associate town administrator.

At the Jan. 10 BOMA meeting, Holdeman declined much comment, saying only that he would defer to the report by the engineer.

The Board decided that the engineer will be retained at no cost to the Town and that Holdeman could not be forced to hire the engineer. When asked what he would prefer to do, Holdeman elected to proceed to hire an engineer.

At Palmer’s recommendation, the Board decided that Holdeman would have a two-week deadline to report back to the Town.

“The ball is in your court; the rock is in your court,” Ford said.

In other business, the Board:

• Approved an ordinance to rezone parcel 81, Tax Map 150, 13106 Kinsgston Pike, located on the south side of Kingston Pike and fronting South Watt Road to C-1 General Commercial District, 2.1 acres.

• Approved an ordinance to rezone parcel 8 and a portion of parcel 9, Tax Map 162, located on southeast corner of Evans and McFee roads to R-1 Rural Single-Family Residential Dis-trict and OSMR Open Space Mixed Residential Overlay District, 45.5 acres.

• Denied an amendment to the Farragut Municipal Code, Title 9, Chapter 4. Sign Ordinance, Section 9-406 (3), (g) to allow changeable copy ground mounted signs.

• Approved TDOT contract for improvements to Concord Road from Turkey Creek Road to Northshore Drive.
