FHS swim-dive ends AquaDog meet mastery

As often the case in a football or basketball game, second half performance made the difference at Sunday’s Farragut versus Bearden swim and dive meet.

The Aqua Admirals pulled away with dominating swims during the final 13 events to win 208-152 against its archrival Jan. 13 in UT’s Student Aquatic Center, ending recent BHS dominance.

“I think this is the first time in four years,” FHS head coach Mike Bowman said about beating the AquaDogs.

“The depth, I think that really came to fruition today,” Bowman added, as the Aqua Admirals pulled away from an 84-84 tie through 11 events. On top of finishing one-two-three in three individual events, “we won all four relays at the end of the meet,” Bowman said.

Farragut double winners were Laurel Chaney (100-yard backstroke and 100-freestyle) and Eric Craig (200-free and 100-free). Three other FHS swimmers earned state qualifying times. “We’re looking at a state team of 40 kids again, which is really good,” Bowman said.

Added to that list are senior captain Brooke Rooney (50-free), Meg Beasley (100-back) and Isaac Taylor (200-individual medley).

Bearden double winners were Bo Fethe (200-individual medley and 100-breaststroke) and Hannah Pinion (200-IM and 100-butterfly).
