BHS boys hoops state bid ends

Poor free throw shooting in the clutch plus late-game turnovers killed off Bearden’s fourth-quarter rally in a TSSAA boys high school sectional playoff game at Kingsport-Doybns-Bennett High School Monday, March 3.

“We didn’t play well defensively, and to succeed we have to play well defensively,” said BHS head coach Mark Blevins, whose Bulldogs lost 70-65 to the KD-B Indians [30-3 record]. Bearden rallied from a 59-46 deficit after three quarters to pull within two late. “[Dobyns-Bennett’s] execution was near perfect,” Blevins said.

The Bulldogs season ends with a final 33-4 record”

Junior guard Blake Jenkins led BHS with 22 points. Junior post Demonte Simpson added 18, plus 10 rebounds.
