Softball Ads edge WB, perfect at break

It was a busy week for the Farragut Lady Admirals softball team, but after winning all four games to start the season it was all worthwhile.

Led by senior pitcher Rachel Ingleby and a timely late-inning hit, Farragut beat District 4-AAA foe William Blount 1-0 Thursday, March 13, at FHS’s Bellamy Field.

“It seems like every time we play William Blount, no matter what, it is a one-nothing ballgame,” Farragut head coach David Moore said. “That’s just kind of the way we play each other.”

Ingleby pitched her fourth complete game of the week as she struck out 10, while only allowing four hits.

“Rachel is solid,” Moore said. “She just cut it loose and it seems like when the situation gets tough, her intensity goes up and she works a little bit harder.”

Farragut (4-0, 2-0 in 4-AAA) scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from junior Morgan Holbrook. “Morgan led us in R-B-Is last year,” Moore said. “She has not been hitting as well as she would like to at this point, but she is fighting through it and came up with a huge hit when we had to have one.”

Abby Rose Martin drew a walk to lead off the inning, and then senior Keri Meade put down a bunt single to put runners on first and second with no outs.

After a fly-out, Ingleby drew a walk to force the bases loaded with one out. A groundout force at home left the bases loaded with two outs for Holbrook.

“We have been finding ways to manufacture runs all week and we had good at-bats that last inning ... Keri got a bunt down that we had to have,” Moore said.

Playing four games in the first week of the season was a big test for Farragut, but the Lady Ads got the job done in each game.

Ingleby threw a two-hitter to lead FHS over Morristown West 2-0, Wednesday, March 13, at MWHS.

Farragut scored both its runs in the fifth inning as Holbrook led off with a single. Lyndsey Slade dropped down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away to put runners on second and third with no outs. Melissa Eggert had an RBI groundout and Martin drove in the other run on a sacrifice fly.

Ingleby had seven strikeouts in five innings to earn the win as Farragut beat South-Doyle 12-1, Tuesday, March 11, at SDHS.

Ingleby hit a 3-run homer and LaShae Wallace was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Holbrook pitched the sixth inning for Farragut and was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
