Admirals go 3-0 in rain-shortened annual tourney

Rain may have shortened the Sportsbelle Classic, but it didn’t stop the Farragut Admirals from shining during the week.

The Admirals kept its undefeated season alive by beating Morristown East, White House and Tennessee High to improve its overall record to 12-0 through March 31.

The Admirals closed out pool play with a 14-0 win versus Morristown East Friday, March 28, at FHS.

Farragut opened the game with a five-run first inning. Cade Stallings had a two-RBI single and Mac Thoreson a two-RBI double to put Farragut up 4-0. Three batters later, Matt Sayers knocked in the fifth run on a sacrifice grounder.

The Admirals added four runs in the second inning. Curt Powell led off with a single and scored on an error by the Morristown East right fielder on a Nicky Delmonico single.

Delmonico scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0. Thoreson hit a RBI double and Joey Delmonico drove in one run on a single to give FHS a 9-0 lead heading to the third inning.

“We swung it good,” FHS head coach Tommy Pharr said. “We came out early and hit early and it is easy to relax once you get a lead, so we did a good job.”

Joey Delmonico knocked in another run the following inning on another single to put Farragut up 10-0. The senior was 3-for-3 on the night with three singles.

Blake Hayes was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth inning. After a Brian Isom double, a wild pitch allowed Hayes to score and Isom advanced to third. Ethan Bennett’s sacrifice fly brought Isom home for a 12-0 lead. Ryan Burnett capped the scoring with a two-run homer.

Thoreson struck out four batters in four innings of work to earn the win before Burnett closed the final inning without allowing a baserunner.

“[Thoreson] threw the ball well and located well,” Pharr said.

FARRAGUT 4 WHITE HOUSE 1

Farragut won its second game of the night with a 4-1 win versus White House Thursday, March 27, at UT. Senior Hunter Newby struck out eight in six innings on the mound to earn the win. Thoreson went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double.

FARRAGUT 8 TENN. HIGH 0

Farragut opened the Sportsbelle Classic with a 8-0 win over Tennessee High Thursday, March 27, at FHS.
