FHS tennis boys seek 4-AAA No. 1

While the Farragut High School girls tennis team has found its way to the top of District 4-AAA in recent seasons, the boys think it might be their time in 2008.

“We’ve been second in the district for two years in a row, and we really think this is going to be our shot at winning this year — possibly,” FHS head coach Josh Nelson said. “That’s our goal.”

Farragut entered the week 2-1 overall, 2-0 in 4-AAA.

In singles, No. 1 player is sophomore Alex Houck; No. 2 is senior Tron Dareing; No. 3, David Jester, a senior; No. 4 is junior Russell Graves; No. 5, Andrew Klarner, a senior, and No. 6, Adam Wozek, a sophomore.

“David Jester ... has really stepped up his game,” Nelson said. “Alex has been playing really well, and so is Tron.”

The defending 4-AAA champs, 2-1 overall and 2-0 in district action, return Julia Hsu, a sophomore, as No. 1 player.

“We should be competitive in the district and vying for another district championship,” Nelson said. “Julia Hsu is a really good player.”

At No. 2 is Leslie Roberge, a junior, while Megan Whaley, also a junior, is No. 3. Lucy Edick, a sophomore, holds down No. 4 followed by senior Jamie Long at No. 5 and Sarah Hill, a freshman, playing No. 6. Also in the mix is freshman Jessica Graham.
