Five All-state for FHS Lacrosse

Five All-state players, all juniors, form a strong backbone for the 2008 Farragut High School Lacrosse team.

Macon Peek, an attackman who leads the team in scoring, joins midfielder Marty Sutton Jr., second in scoring, defenders Alex Encarnacion and Connor Stank and face-off specialist Cason Hewgley as members of the Tennessee State All-star team.

Selected among 120 players during a December 2007 All-star tryout in Nashville, these Admirals filled five of the 20 roster spots according to FHS assistant coach Ted Stank.

Also a huge contributor through six games (3-3 record) according to coach Stank is Austin Williams, a sophomore goalkeeper. “He’s playing lights-out this year,” the coach said.

As a team, “Our goal this year is to make the state playoffs and make a good showing,” said coach Stank.

Other varsity team members are Spenser Amerson, Taylor Clark, Ace Englert, Preston Hewgley, Casey Hicks, Thomas Jackson, Mitchell Peek, Matthew Toman and Austin Williams.

Farragut’s biggest win, according to Stank, was an 8-5 victory in Greensboro, N.C., against Southeast Guilford of Greensboro, “a traditionally strong team,” Stank said. “That was a big win for us.”

With Tennessee divided into east and west conferences, the Admirals are in Division I East Conference with McCallie, Montgomery Bell Academy, Ravenwood and Webb School of Bell Buckle.

Farragut’s next game, its first conference game, is against Ravenwood, reigning state champs, Friday, April 4, “in downtown Knoxville,” Stank said.
