Defense better, but FHS loses at Gibbs

Looking for positives coming out of a 1-0 loss at Gibbs last week, Farragut softball skipper David Moore cited defense and pitching.

While another stellar performance by Lady Admirals staff ace Rachel Ingleby is par for the course, an errorless game against the Lady Eagles Wednesday, April 2, was encouraging given recent defensive lapses.

“We had kinda come off spring break not playing as good on defense as we’d played before spring break, I thought,” said Moore, whose softballers stood at 6-3 overall, 3-1 in District 4-AAA, entering the week.

“We made some solid plays on defense. We cut down a runner at the plate that tried to score on a wild pitch,” Moore added. “Abby [Rose Martin, FHS catcher] made a good play to the plate and Rachel made a good tag.”

Ingleby allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out five. “Rachel pitched a good game,” Moore said.

Offensively, Farragut managed only one hit and two baserunners the entire game: a bunt single by senior third baseman Keri Meade and a walk drawn by freshman shortstop Andi Murry.

The Lady Admirals led Lenoir City 7- 1 in the second inning of a district game at LCHS Friday, April 4, before rain washed out play.

That game was made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, April 9, after Farragut game versus Cumberland County at FHS’s Bellamy Field.
