BHS track teams top three at KD-B


Led by Ben Fennell and Mary Hirst, the Bearden boys and girls track teams came away with top three finishes at the 15-team Frank Carver Invitation at Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett High School Saturday, April 5.

Fennell, a senior, led the BHS boys to second-place by winning the 800-meter run (2:03). He also ran a leg in the winning 4 X 800 relay that set a meet record (8:22), and currently is No. 2 in Tennessee, with Peter Migun, Silas Harness and Sam Shaughnessy.

Fennell also ran a leg on the winning 4 X 400 relay (3:34) with Scott Carvin, Brett Coleman and Jacob Loveday. Shaughnessy also was 3200 champ, while Devrin Young won the 100 and 200 dashes.

The BHS 4 X 100 relay was No. 2 and the 4 X 200 team took third.

Hirst, a junior, led the BHS girls to third-place by winning the high jump, taking No. 2 in the triple jump and third in the 300 hurdles.

Senior Sarah Canter won discus with a 120-foot toss.
