SoccerDawgs hit road, whip Science Hill 3-1

Bearden bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 3-1 win at Science Hill, Wednesday, April 2.

Aaron Schoenfeld scored in the 38th minute on an assist from Scott Norman to give the SoccerDawgs a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The goal was Schoenfeld’s 12th of the year.

The SoccerDawgs played their fifth game in seven days, but they fought through the pain enough to come out with a win two days after a home loss to Knoxville Catholic.

“It was a real long week for us from all the games we played,” Bearden head coach Eric Turner said. “We were tired and we didn’t play particularly well, but we won so that made me happy.

“It is showing that they can push through their leg weariness,” Turner added.

Tyler Koulavong scored unassisted in the 50th minute to put Bearden up 2-0.

Turner was especially proud of the way his young defenders played, along with the two senior forwards.

“Patrick Harmony and Seth Williams on defense had great games,” Turner said. “Obviously Tom Webster and Aaron Schoenfeld are the two that kind of carried us there.”

Webster connected on a direct kick in the 70th minute to give the SoccerDawgs a three goal advantage.

The goal was Webster’s seventh of the season.

Science Hill scored its only goal of the game on a direct kick goal 40 seconds later to round out the scoring.

The SoccerDawgs improved its overall record to 6-1 entering the week.

“They [Bearden] didn’t play their best game and won so that’s a good sign,” the BHS coach said.

Bearden’s game against Dobyns-Bennett, originally scheduled for Friday, April 2, was rained out. The makeup has not been scheduled.
