Goltry signs
- Thu, Apr, 17, 2008
Bearden defensive tackle/offensive tackle Alex Goltry, a First-Team All-Region 1-5A honoree at both positions, signed National Letter of Intent papers with Wofford College, Spartanburg, S.C., of the Southern Conference during a Friday, April 4 ceremony at BHS.
The 6-foot-1, 212--pound senior recorded 78 tackles, including 22 for loss and nine sacks, in 2007 to help Bearden win the region and reach the TSSAA state semifinals. “He’s well-rounded, he’s got good grades,” BHS head coach Brad Taylor said. “Got good speed. A lot of natural ability, too. … His work ethic on and off the field is probably one of the top qualities that he’s got. Has a little bit of that nasty side enough for him to play D-line.” Goltry said, “It was a really nice school, and they’ve got great football. I was looking for a great academic school that was going to give me a great education.”
