Chamber releases Farragut map

Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce has recently released its newest map of the town of Farragut and surrounding areas.

“It’s basically a community service thing that we do. … It’s just something that the community needs: to have available to people coming into the area, to people who live here and maybe don’t know where some businesses are,” said Joeva Merrion, executive assistant at FWKCC.

“It just lets people know what’s going on in Farragut, map-wise,” she added.

The map depicts the Farragut area with a street index and highlighted businesses. The map also shows the locations of new developments and subdivisions; businesses could pay to have their locations bulleted.

“The cost is really to the advertisers and we don’t really have a bottom dollar figure. It’s paid for through the advertising, really,” Merrion said.

More than 50 advertisers participated in the financing of the map.

Merrion said the area the map covered was increased from the last time a map was printed four years ago. The area shown on the map extends further west.

Five thousand copies of the map were printed and distributed: to advertisers, Farragut Town Hall and FWKCC. Chamber charges $2 per map.

“[Chamber charges] just because of the intensity of the labor that goes into that … unfortunately, because we don’t have an infinite amount of maps,” Merrion said.

“There’s a lot that goes into it. We don’t sit up here in the Chamber and do all the topographical information … there’s input from the County, from the town of Farragut, and then Community Link pulls it all together and puts it together as a map.

“It is a big joint venture, and we certainly have to give credit to the people at the Town of Farragut who were helpful in getting us the information we needed, and to Knox County also,” Merrion added.

For more information, call the Chamber at 865-675-7057.
