Dawgs capture Trojan Classic; FHS wins four

The Bearden Bulldogs won six games to capture the Soddy Daisy Trojan Classic, April 18-20.

The Bulldogs, 27-2 as of Tuesday, beat Red Bank 10-6 to earn the title, Sunday, April 20.

Junior Garrett Copeland got the win on the mound after coming on in relief in the fifth inning. Senior Matthew Scruggs homered for Bearden.

To get to the championship game, the Bulldogs beat Mt. Juliet earlier in the day 9-1.

Ryan Potter threw a complete game-three-hitter to earn the win. Halliday tripled and doubled for the Bulldogs. Ryan Ford and Copeland added doubles for a Bearden team that smacked 15 hits.

The Bulldogs beat Soddy-Daisy 6-2 and Cookeville 5-1 on Saturday, April 19. Taylor Gouffon threw a three-hitter against Soddy-Daisy as Scruggs, Bryant Walker, and Sean Greenway hit doubles to lead the offense.

Against Cookeville, Hunter Daniel tossed a three-hitter to solidify the win.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 10-0 win versus Notre Dame and a 6-2 win over Rhea County Friday, April 18.

Bearden also picked up a 15-3 win against William Blount, Wednesday, April 16, and a 10-4 victory versus Sevier County on Tuesday, April 15.

The Farragut Admirals continued to play at a high level, picking up four wins and improving to 27-0 overall as of April 22.

Mac Thoreson, Hunter Newby and Chris Hatfield combined to throw a three-hitter as Farragut beat Siegel 14-0, Saturday, April 19, at Farragut.

Michael Williams and Thoreson homered for the Ads.

The Admirals beat Lenoir City 17-1, Friday, April 18, at Lenoir City High School. Jordan Cooper pitched the first five innings to earn the win before Shane Glarrow came on in relief in the fifth inning.

Curt Powell, Thoreson, Matt Ramsey and Joey Delmonico homered for Farragut. Newby, Williams, Joey Delmonico, Matt Sayers and Blake Hayes added doubles.

Farragut defeated Heritage 11-1 in five innings Wednesday, April 16, at home.

Philip Pfeifer threw a two-hitter and Nicky Delmonico, Williams and Thoreson hit home runs.

The Admirals beat Maryville 10-4, Tuesday, April 15, at FHS.

Powell and Cade Stallings homered for Farragut. Powell had two doubles while Ramsey had one. Ramsey got the win on the mound before Hatfield came in on relief in the sixth inning to close the game.
