Alumni flying scrum
‘Brooke’s game’ again a success for ex-Ads, Dawgs

In the second annual Brooke Culbreth Memorial Alumni Game between former Farragut and Bearden High School players held Saturday, April 19, at FHS’s Bill Clabo Field, the ex-Bulldogs came out with 4-1 victory.

But the final score wasn’t the most important thing on this day.

Brooke was a beloved and reliable team manager for the Farragut boys’ team from 2003 until graduating from FHS in 2006.

“She was there every day for four years at the boys’ practice and at every game,” said her father, Farragut boys soccer head coach Wallie Culbreth. “It’s a wonderful, warm feeling that so much effort has been put into these games and fund-raisers to do that in Brooke’s honor.”

Money raised in this event and general fund-raising efforts goes to the Brooke Culbreth Memorial Scholarship Fund, awarded annually to an FHS senior.

“It’s a blessing and I am just thankful everybody can come out here and do this,” said Bradley Culbreth, Farragut Class of 2002, and sister of Brooke. “It is good for my parents, it is good for me, and it is good for us. It’s a good fellowship to come out and see each other again. We have seen people we haven’t seen in years.”

The Bearden squad was organized by Class of 2002 alumnus Demetrius Donald.

“Just being here and doing it for Brooke is awesome,” said Donald, a former standout midfielder. “We all grew up together, we all love each other and she was family to all of us. It’s great that everybody can get together and keep in mind what it’s all about.”

Victor Upshaw (’03), Bryan Walker (’07), Ed Bayer (’02), and Matt Herbstritt (’03) scored goals for Bearden. Tyler Swift (’07) scored for Farragut.
