• SOOD, Ravinder “Ravi ” K.,
age 72, of Knoxville passed away suddenly Friday evening, May 16, 2008 at his home. Ravi was born in Punjab, India. He came to the United States to study mechanical engineering at The University of Tennessee in 1955 and receive bachelor’s and master’s degrees. White at UT he received various academic awards, including membership in the engineering honor society Tau Beta PI. After graduation, he was employed with TVA until he took early retirement in 1983. Ravi also worked with Oak Ridge National Laboratory for many years. Ravi also was involved in real estate development in the Knoxville area until he retired in 2006. He was a member of the Hindu Community Center and also a member of West Emory Presbyterian Church. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada in his motor home. He also was involved in local and international philanthropy, including the building of a Tuberculosis Clinic in Dehra Dun, India. Ravi retained a love for animals as a result of his child hood years in India. He was the son of K.R Sud and Durga Devi Sud, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Chander Kochar. Ravi is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Sood; sons, Maharaj Sood and wife, Margaret, Balraj Sood, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Dustin, Raakhi and Uma; sister, Sheila Chopra and husband, Baldev of New Delhi, India; brothers, Devinder Sud and wife, Geeta and Mohinder Sud and wife, Dr. Leela Sud, all of Knoxville; several nieces and nephew. Funeral services were Sunday, May 18, 2008. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Knox County CAC, Meals on Wheels, 2247 Western Ave., Knxoville, TN 37921.

• ROBERTS, Bess Marley,
age 99, of West Knoxville, passed away May 13, 2008. She was a member of West Emory Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Bert M. Roberts; and a son, John C. Roberts. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Ellen Roberts; daughter-in-law, Grace Hartzog, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, John and Terry Roberts of Maryville, Linda and Larry Jones, Tracy and Kim Roberts, Louis and Angie Roberts, all of Knoxville, Lynn and Erika Roberts of Fayetteville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Joshua, April, Rebecca, Kayla, Casey, Paige, Paul, and Elijah Roberts, Charles and Al Jones. Family and friends met at Edgewood Cemetery Thursday for a graveside service. Friends called at their convenience at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

• KRAMER, Sarah Jane “Janie,”
age 66, of Knoxville, passed away May 17, 2008. She was born Oct. 1, 1941, to the late Nathan and Ella Mae Wolfenbarger. Janie was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. She was a wonderful wife, devoted mother and loyal friend. She will be missed more that words could ever express. Janie is survived by her husband of 11 years, Wayne Kramer; five children and their spouses, Tia and Greg Conner, Sabrina and Drew Keith, Jeff and Jane Kramer, Mark and Kelly Kramer, Kristi and Johnny Miller, all of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren, Madison and Parker Keith, Morgan and MacKenna Kramer, Adam and Austin Kramer, Kramer and Cameron Miller, Mindy Spring, Lori Childs, and Sam Conner; and her beloved sister, Betty Sue “Susie” Hiers and husband, George “Buck” Hiers. Funeral service was Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Dr. Charles Earl officiating. Family and friends met at Lynnhurst Cemetery Thursday for an 11 a.m. interment service. The family received friends Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

• HOWARD, Lillian Katherine,
age 87, of Knoxville passed away early Saturday morning, May 17, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospice. Mrs. Howard was born in Harlan, Ky. She lived at Highsplint, Ky., in Harlan County most of her life with her husband of 56 years, Hubert Howard, who was a coal miner for Highsplint, Seagraves and Eastover mining companies. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her son, Donald Ray Howard; parents, Russell V. and Nannie Randall Smith; brothers, Robert V. Smith and Russell V. Smith. She is survived by her children, Nancy K. Bird and husband, Jerry of Corbin, Ky., Jack L. Howard and wife, Rita of Knoxville, Jeannie Musick Prochaska and husband, Rodger of Ravenna, Neb., Bobby R. Howard and wife, Waynetta of Harlan; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Madge Randall Kajdacz and husband, Hank of San Diego, Calif.,; and brother, Hugh Smith of Shelbyville, Ky. A private family service will be held at a later date. • BROUSSARD, John Camille,
age 80, of Knoxville, beloved husband, father and brother, passed away peacefully at the Brakebill Nursing Home May 12, 2008. He was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral. John was a native of Louisiana, born in Maurice and also had lived in Church Point and Lafayette, La., and Navarre Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Camille and Ada Hebert Broussard; siblings, Edward Broussard, and Doris Dartez; and infant son, Claude Broussard. John’s survivors include his wife, Claire Niven Broussard; children, Jeanne Cauldwell and husband, Malcolm, Michelle Rainwater and husband, George, Mark Broussard, André Broussard and wife, Lori; grandchildren, Woodson and Andrew Criner of Ripley, John Criner of Knoxville, Taylor, Emily and John Mark Broussard of Knoxville; seven siblings, Lastie Broussard and wife, Rita of Scott, La., Wallace Broussard and wife, Doris of Maurice, La., Gladys Trahan of Maurice, Alice Schroder and husband, John of Beaumont, Texas, Willie Broussard and wife, Joyce of Maurice, Walter Broussard and wife, Rita of Breaux Bridge, La., Faye Prejean and husband, Paul of Beaumont; sister-in-law, Louise Broussard of Lafayette; step-children, Susan Vadasz and husband, Bob of Stanwood, Wash., Pat Niven and wife, Elizabeth of Pensacola Beach, Fla., Vernon Niven and wife, Evelyne of Los Altos Hills, Calif. John also had a special place in his heart for their children, Alex and Thomas Niven, Duncan and Nicole Niven, Malachi Vadasz .Lindsey and Steven Johnson, Casey Maples and Armond Garcia. A funeral mass was celebrated Thursday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice with rites of Christian Burial following in the church cemetery. A memorial mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral will be announced later in the church bulletin.
