FHS class hosts ‘JamFest 2008’

Farragut High School’s dynamics of leadership class rocked the house when they presented Battle of the Bands JamFest 2008, Friday, April 25, in FHS Gymnasium.

Guy DeMarco teaches the class that was once a club called Leadership Initiative organized the 10-band concert as a fund-raiser.

“It is to support the [FHS] Education Foundation. This is a fund-raiser we are doing for them because they support the school all the time. This is the least we could do for them,” he said.

This is the first year the class is offered for credit.

“It’s a full year class, it goes from 7:25 to 8:15 a.m. The class teaches the students about leadership, qualities of a leader and how leaders are formed,” DeMarco said.

“They get real-world examples when they go out and do these service projects,” he added.

The line-up for the evening included: A.J Baker, Taylor Hall and Seth Carter of Wakee and the Masons; Jesse Jones, Steven Giblock, Nick Kakanis, Chris Wright and Vivek Patel of “Amwidkle;” Steven Nance, Ryan Sinclair, Aaron Campbell, Jason Comeaux and Hari Ganeson of “Turbo Juice & the Thunder Lemons;” Bred Dehler, Dustin Day and Zack Zones of “Busted Stuff;” Andrew Wonfe, Leo Lacomera, Ryan Emmett and Caleb Rangel of “Monkey Lamp Shade;” Elliot White, Gabriel White, Judah White and Rob White of “Kaboom;” Lou Henthorne and Will Farner of “Richard;” John Knight, Grant Blevins, Andrew Hale and Mitch Kleiber of “Kappitol” and Vivek Patel, Avery Orvis, Kevin Horn, Jake Lane and Tyler Wooden of “Warrior Princess.”

JamFest 2008 was open to everyone, but once inside there was no re-entry.

Though hosted by DeMarco’s class, the event was collaborated with FHS Drama teachers and students.

“I wanted to make it more like a concert, so we put it in the gym rather than the auditorium and the stagecraft club built us a stage,” Demarco said.

The event raised $1,155.00 for FHSEF. DeMarco and his class will present the check to the foundation at 7 p.m., Monday, May 12, in FHS Library.
