FHS softball looks to right ‘wrongs’ of 2007

Falling one win short of Region 2-AAA softball tourney action last season was a rarity for David Moore’s Farragut Lady Admirals.

But District 4-AAA’s top seed in 2008 looked to duplicate its regular season title with a 4-AAA tourney title this week. (Should the final two 4-AAA tourney teams each have one loss, a deciding game at South-Doyle High School would be played beginning at 6 p.m., tonight, Thursday, May 8).

“I feel pretty good about the way we’ve been playing,” said Moore, whose team ended regular season play 25-7 with two wins. “Last year we had a week off and I think that hurt us. Getting a couple of games under our belt this past week hopefully kept us sharp.”

Those games were an FHS Senior Night win against Webb 9-2 at Bellamy Field, Tuesday, April 29, then a 4-0 blanking of Jefferson County on the road one day later.

“I think they’re motivated to try and go as far as we can,” Moore said. “We’ve got a good shot.”

Region 2-AAA tourney semifinal action is Monday, May 12, at the homes of the District 4-AAA and 3-AAA champs. The region title game will be Wednesday, May 14.

Moore’s four seniors each went out in style in their last regular season game at Bellamy Field.

Lyndsey Slade had two hits, including a double, with two RBIs; Abby Rose Martin added two hits, including a double and one RBI; winning pitcher Rachel Ingleby also contributed at the plate with two hits, including a double, and one RBI; Keri Meade added one hit and one RBI. Ingleby had eight strikeouts while allowing six hits.

Against Jeff County, Ingleby fired a two-hitter while smashing three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Megan Harris’ two-run homer in the sixth inning helped provide cushion.
