KCHS’s Markiewicz medalist

Mike Markiewicz earned tri-medalist honors among a 78-golfer field representing 16 states at the Medicus Preseason Junior at Texarkana (Texas) tournament April 25-27.
Markiewicz, a Knoxville Catholic High School junior standout golfer, fired a 5-over-par 149 during 36-hole stroke play at Texarkana Golf Ranch.
“I grinded hard ... the course hit me and I had to fight back. I was able to compete even though I was not playing my best,” Markiewicz said.
The Irish junior’s shining moment was an eagle at No. 8 hole, par-5, during the final round.
“I was trying to lay up with my hybrid, but the ball bounced left,” Markiewicz said. “It rolled on the green and I was able to make the putt.”
