LCUB Westland Drive substation bid awarded

Lenoir City Utility Board awarded a bid for the construction of Westland Drive substation to Aubrey Silvey Enterpris-es, Inc. for $159,500 at its meeting Monday, April 21.

“This is the same crew that did the Watt Road substation,” said Jay Himes, manager of engineering.

“And this is a good price,” LCUB General Manager Fred Nelson said as other Board members quoted a bid with a price tag of nearly $200,000 more than Aubrey Silvey’s.

In other business, the Board:

• Approved a resolution requiring submission of a building permit upon application for an electrical meter within the limits of Lenoir City.

“I’ve spent the past couple of months trying to evaluate where the department is, where some of the issues in the community area … one thing is where you have lots that are being changed from single family to two family to multi-family,” said Lenoir City codes enforcement officer, Leslie Johnson.

According to Johnson, that can lead to parking and overpopulated structure issues.

“This request that I’m asking of L-C-U-B tonight is to give us the opportunity, that when people put in a meter, to make sure the building permit is [acceptable],” she added.

• Awarded bids for landscape maintenance and mowing of LCUB properties to Vineyard Lawn and Landscape and Thomas Complete Lawncare. Vineyard will care for the warehouse for $260 per week, the water department properties for $260 per week and the electric department properties for $520 per week. Thomas will care for gas and sewer department properties for $55 and $200 per week, respectively. These are two-year contracts.

• Authorized the water department to seek construction bids for a 750,000-gallon water tank at the Pine Top location and its water booster station at the Highland Circle tank site.

The meeting was presided over by Vice Mayor Douglas “Buddy” Hines .
