FHS, CAK girls roll to tennis titles
Many individual champions

Finishing District 4-AAA play perfect as champions, Farragut girls tennis is looking for a state berth today.

Meanwhile, Christian Academy of Knoxville’s tennis girls have captured both Region 2-AAA and District 4-A/AA crowns. More on CAK and individual tennis results later in this story.

With four singles winners and two doubles champs in a 6-3 win versus William Blount to claim the 4-AAA crown last week, FHS (12-2) will face Tennessee High at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Tyson Park.

Julia Hsu, Leslie Roberge, Megan Whaley and Jamie Long won singles, while Hsu-Whaley and Roberge-Lucy Edick victorious in doubles.

Individually, Bearden’s Kayla McMurray beat Hsu in the 4-AAA singles finals 6-4, 6-3, but FHS’s Alex Houck won the boys district singles crown versus Zach Clark of South-Doyle 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

The FHS girls double tandem of Roberge-Whaley also was 4-AAA champ, winning 7-5, 7-5 against Hubbs-Ott of South-Doyle.

The Admiral boys doubles team of Tron Dareing-David Jester was runner-up. All played in Region 2-AAA action earlier this week (after press deadline).

CAK blanked Seymour 4-0 to claim Region 4-A/AA with singles wins from Kia Batiste, Kathleen Burg and Ruthie Edmunds.

Brooke Griffith and Morgan Arrants’ singles victories helped lead the Lady Warriors to a 5-2 District 2-A/AA title win against Kingston.

Individually for CAK, the girls doubles team of Burg-Edmunds beat Oaks-Kyte of Anderson County 6-1, 6-2 to claim district honors. Warrior Will Sparks won boys’ singles, beating John Taylor of Stone Memorial 6-1, 6-4.
