• Gables & Gates, Realtors presented its March charity award to Camp Eagle’s Nest, a camp for the Hematology/ Oncology clinic at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital on behalf of Vikki Felts, March agent of the month. Check was presented by Susie Lash, owner and president of Gables & Gates, Realtors, to Rebecca Greene, annual giving coordinator for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

• West Knoxville physician Lytle Brown, MD, FACS, recently received a three-year appointment as Cancer Liaison Physician for the cancer program at Parkwest Medical Center. Cancer Liaison Physicians are an integral part of cancer programs accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

• In conjunction with National Nurses Week, May 6–12, The University of Tennessee Medical Center recognized several of its top leaders in nursing through the 2008 Nurse Excellence Awards. In all, 17 nurses from the medical center earned recognition. Wendy Franklin, MSN, RN, CCRN, of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute won the Educator award; Kelsey Dawson, ADN, RN, of the Neuro/Stroke Unit earned the Novice award. The Leader award went to Jan Preston, MSN, RN, of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute. Other UT Medical Center 2008 Nurse Excellence award winners include Darrell Allen, RN, CEN, EMT and Rocky Walker, RN, CEN, EMT-P, both of UT LIFESTAR; Rena Begley, ADN, RN, of Medical Nephrology; Robyn Harlow, BSN, RN, of the Neuro/Trauma Unit; Becky Hartsell, BSN, RN, of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; Jennifer Henry, ADN, RN, CNRN, of the Brain and Spine Institute; Amanda Lane, BSN, RN, of the Heart/Stroke Center; Ada Lindsey, RN, CCRN, of Surgical Critical Care; Sonya Luchauer, BSN, RN, BC, of the Vascular Surgery/Transplant Unit; Allison Sheffey, BSN, RN and Emma Taylor, BSN, RN, both of Medical Critical Care; Robin Swaggerty, RNC, of Regional Perinatal; Mike Travis, ADN, RN, CGRN, of Endoscopy and Zach Young, BSN, RN, of Labor and Delivery.

• On Wednesday, June 15, Renee Anderson, from Prentke Romich Company, will be at East Tennessee Technology Access Center in Knoxville to conduct a free workshop on the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices. • Barry Curry has joined BB&T Commercial Finance as a Commercial Finance specialist serving Birmingham, Ala., East Tennessee and Kentucky.

• Food City officials announced plans to construct a 44,000 square foot superstore in Lenoir City. Location replaces current store and is scheduled to open in the fall.

• Jeff Grebe is now president and owner of the two-office Weichert Realtors, Advantage Plus.

• Gables & Gates, Realtors presented its February charity award to Aid to Distressed Families in Appalachian Counties on behalf of Carol Murphy, February agent of the month. Check was presented by Susie Lash, owner and president of Gables & Gates, Realtors, to Dot Robbins, Senior Housing Specialist for the Affordable Housing Program of ADFAC and Connie Ball, Service Coordinator for the Affordable Housing Program of ADFAC.

• Clif Tennison has been named an exemplary psychiatrist by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
