Baseball Ads’ dump Lincoln Co., sweep Ravenwood

En route to its fourth Class AAA state title in six years, Farragut baseball ran up a 30-2 scoring margin and a 3-0 record during its three-game bracket play in Murfreesboro last week.

It began with an 8-0 drubbing of Lincoln County (26-15) in the opener Tuesday, May 20, led by the bat of junior shortstop Curt Powell and the pitching of freshman Philip Pfeifer. Pfeifer started and went the distance, striking out 16, allowing two hits and one walk.

Powell had four hits, three RBIs and scored two runs. Nicky Delmonico’s lone hit was a two-run homer to get the first inning scoring started. Cade Stallings, Michael Williams, Mac Thoreson and Matt Sayers each added one.

Ravenwood (19-16) would be a double victim, taking a 13-0 whipping Wednesday, May 21.

Powell and Stallings fueled the Admirals’ offense with three hits each — Stallings a solo home run.

On the mound, lefty starter Jordan Cooper went the full five innings, striking out 13 while allowing just two hits and one walk. He did hit two batters.

Joey Delmonico’s two hits included a two-run blast, while Sayers had a double among his two hits. Ryan Burnett, Matt Ramsey, Mac Thoreson and Blake Hayes each added one hit.

Farragut advanced to Friday’s title game versus Bartlett (10-6 win, see story beginning on page 1) after beating Ravenwood 9-2 Thursday, May 22.

Powell stayed hot, lacing three hits and scoring three runs. Williams and Ramsey each added two hits, while Hayes, Stallings and Nicky Delmonico had one apiece. Winning pitcher Thoreson worked four innings, allowing no runs, one hit, no walks and four strikeouts. Shane Glarrow worked one inning of relief and struck out two while allowing one hit.

Starter Chris Hatfield worked two innings: two earned runs, five hits, one walk, four strikeouts.
