• Farragut High School Volleyball tryouts will be 9 a.m. to noon, July 17-18, in Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium at FHS.   

• Farragut High School Softball tryouts will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m., July 24, at FHS’s Bellamy Field.

• The 10th Annual Log-A-Load for Kids Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 20 at Chatata Valley Golf Club in Cleveland, with a shotgun start set for 1 p.m. The proceeds raised will benefit East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital. Sponsored by the Tennessee Forestry Association, the tournament is a four-man scramble format, and participants will compete for several prizes and gift certificates. Space is still available for area golfers to be involved in this unique tournament. The entry fee for a four-man team is $440 (or $110 per individual player), which includes green and cart fees, lunch, refreshments, and an official tournament goodie bag. Last year’s tournament raised more than $8,000 for Children’s Hospital. • July Golf Camps at Concord Park Par 3 Course are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, Monday, July 7, through Wednesday, July 9, for ages 9 to 14. Cost is $115. Camp for ages 6 to 8 is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days, Monday, July 14, and Tuesday, July 15. Cost is $75. To register, call course at 865-966-9103.

• Third Annual Secret City Festival Tennis Tournament will be held June 20-21 (rain date June 22) at Jackson Square Tennis Courts in Oak Ridge. Players will be encouraged to wear all white clothes and play their matches with white tennis balls, representing the attire and equipment used in the 1940s. There is a novice, intermediate and advanced skill level for each of the women’s, men’s and mixed doubles categories. This allows all ages to compete against one another for fun, no matter what their skill level. Skill divisions will be divided into junior, adult, and senior groups. • Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding in Lenoir City is selling tickets to the 2008 Knoxville Open Golf, Presented by Food City, at Fox Den Country Club June 19-22. • The First Tee Life Skills Instructional Clinics at Concord Park Golf Course are designed for the beginning golfer ages 8–17 each Saturday in June through mid-July (June 7 through July 12) and each Monday through July 7. A new skill will be taught each week. Games and practice techniques will be used to make the learning process fun and easy to follow. Cost is $5 per week, limited to 20 students in each session. Saturday sessions run 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday sessions run 4 to 4:45 p.m. For more information, call Concord course at 865-966-9103.

• Summer Afternoon Golf Sessions at Concord Park course is a weekly golf session for ages 6-14 to have golf instruction on a consistent schedule. This weekly schedule is from 4 to 4:45 p.m. each Thursday through July 17 for ages 6-8 and 5 to 5:45 p.m. for ages 9-14. Cost is $20 per week. • Tennessee Valley Fair once again will host the annual Cheerleading Competition beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Homer Hamilton Theatre at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville. Competition is open to all official squads from elementary, junior and senior high schools. Entry deadline is Aug. 18 and limited to first 35 entries received.
