• Maryville College head football coach Tony Ierulli invites the Maryville community and friends of the football program to the 5th annual Maryville College Football Golf Tournament Saturday, July 26, at Royal Oaks Golf Course. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a noon lunch. Shotgun start will begin at 1. Cost for greens fee, cart, lunch, prizes and awards is $75. • East Tennessee Trails/Tennessee Trails Association announces a Saturday, July 19 hike around Elkmont in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Meet at the Townsend Y at 9 a.m. Group will cross as many creeks. To pre-register: Elise Eustace at eliseeus@hotmail.com or 865-201-5806.

• Mercy Health Partners Foundation 22nd annual Baptist Golf Classic is Monday, July 21, at Fox Den Country Club. Tournament is four-man swat with morning and afternoon rounds at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The event features various prizes including generous goody bags, golf shirts and contests on several holes. • Harvey Broome Group’s next outing is July 26: canoe float, Clinch River, Norris Dam to Highway 61. Put in below Norris Dam, take out at Highway 61, near Clinton. Distance is 11 miles. This is a relaxing float, with good current but no whitewater. Some waterfowl may be observed. Bring a sack lunch and even a cooler. Only very basic canoe skills are necessary for this trip. • All funds raised through the inaugural THE MAN RUN for Prostate Cancer Awareness is an event for adults and kids, THE MAN RUN is a 5K run/1-mile fun run/walk, with 5K run set for 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at Tyson Park in Knoxville. Fun run/walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Online registration is available at www.active.com. Individual and team entries are available. • Farragut Softball League’s 2008 fall season begins the second week of August, with registration ending Thursday, July 31. Each league division includes seven regular season league games and a final tournament and award a tournament champion in each division. • CBFO Volleyball Fall Registration is now open to all girls 3rd-grade through rising high school senior. Cost is $80 per player. • Farragut High Volleyball tryouts will be 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday and Friday, July 17-18, at FHS.   

• Farragut High School Softball tryouts will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, July 24, at FHS’s Bellamy Field.

• Tennessee Valley Fair once again will host the annual Cheerleading Competition beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Homer Hamilton Theatre at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville. Competition is open to all official squads from elementary, junior and senior high schools. Entry deadline is Aug. 18 and limited to first 35 entries received.
