• Rick’s House Radio Show is now on WKVL AM 850 in Knoxville, WLOD AM 1140 in Loudon and WGAP AM 1400 in Maryville, Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All three stations are properties of the Horne Radio Network. Rick’s House Radio Show provides useful home improvement information and features local and national experts on topics ranging from fixing a leaky faucet to beginning a major home remodeling project.

• BB&T Corporation has introduced a new checking account designed to help small business owners avoid fees and save money. Business Value 500 Checking will replace BB&T’s Business Constant Checking product.

• Craig Collier, a local entrepreneur, has signed a lease to open his second Fitness Together business at 7240 Kingston Pike, Suite 112.

• Local financial services veterans Tom Vester and Lynn Akers have joined Pinnacle Financial Partners. Vester is a senior vice president and financial advisor in commercial real estate. Akers is a senior vice president and financial advisor in private

banking.

• Friday, July 25, Enrichment Federal Credit Union will be holding a Youth Day at its Northshore branch, 9419 South Northshore Drive. The branch is celebrating the youth of our community and the importance of teaching children to save at an early age by hosting a day of fun at the branch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 865-531-1600.

• Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC, has added Holly R. Gibson in its Knoxville office as an administrative assistant.

• BB&T Corporation reported net income for the second quarter of 2008 totaling $428 million, or $.78 per diluted share, compared with $458 million, or $.83 per diluted share, earned during the second quarter of 2007. These results reflect decreases of 6.6 percent and 6 percent, respectively, compared to the same quarter last year.

• Local businesses and consumers will get a boost from the “Sales Tax Holiday” set to begin Aug. 1. Local businesses can begin the holiday at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and the holiday ends at 11:59 p.m. the following Sunday. During the holiday, clothing and school supplies with a price of $100 or less per item and computers with a price of $1,500 or less per item will be exempt from the state sales and use tax.

• Safety Smart will be holding a self-defense class from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, at its West Knoxville location, 10412 Kingston Pike.  Nicole Collins, police officer with The University of Tennessee, will demonstrate safety techniques and how to handle an attack.  Class registration is $25, and all participants will receive a complimentary pepper spray. Call 865-539-3434 to register for the class.
