Big weekend for grid Admirals, Jackson
Farragut is 7-on-7 region champ; on to nationals
Staff Reports - Thu, Jul, 24, 2008
With a 14-1 record against a five-state field, Farragut High School football’s 7-on-7 passing league team won the adidas 7-on-7 Regional Championship at The University of Tennessee’s Neyland-Thompson Sports Center Saturday, July 19.
The Admirals, led by tourney Most Valuable Player Reece Browning at quarterback, edged Greenville High School (S.C.) 22-21 in Saturday’s title game.
“It was just a great team effort for all those kids to win that many ballgames and then win it outright,” FHS head coach Eddie Courtney said.
North Carolina, Georgia and Kentucky also were represented in addition to Tennessee teams comprising a 28-team field.
The Admirals, who went 5-1 in Friday games before running the table with a 9-0 mark Saturday, (pictured above with title trophy) are headed to the national tournament in Atlanta, Ga. July 30-31.
Farragut will square off against five other region champions and runners-up from across the United States, as they did last year in Pasadena, Calif., at the national tourney.
