• Sign-ups for the fall baseball season for Farragut Baseball, Inc. have begun and will continue through Saturday, Aug. 9. To obtain a form, you can go to Pak Mail, 11803 Kingston Pike (in the Farragut Towne Square Shopping Center) or download the forms by going to www.farragutbaseballinc.com (and look under the “handouts” section). Games will begin in late August. The 10-game season will conclude in mid-to-late October.

• “Skate the Plank” is a match-up of the Hard Knox Roller Girls Allstars against the Blue Ridge Roller Girls of Asheville, N.C. at The Knoxville Convention and Expo Center Downtown, under the Holiday Inn. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the hard hitting action starts at 7. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door for adults, $5 for kids 5-10 and kids under 3 are free. • Russell Biven Summer Clayfest Tournament is Saturday, Aug. 16, at Birds and Clays, in Washburn. Flight times are 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. All proceeds go to Helen Ross McNabb Center. Registration is $120 per player or $600 per five-person team. Space is limited and registration closes Aug. 14. Lunch will be provided. In addition to awards for top scores are a wobble trap and long bird contest, door prizes and other activities. Spaces are limited. • Town of Farragut is now accepting registrations for Coed and Men’s recreational softball teams to participate in the fall leagues, which begin the week of Aug. 11 at Mayor Bob Leonard Park. All area churches, businesses and other organizations are invited to participate. Coed Recreational League will play on Thursday evenings and the Men’s Recreational League will play on Monday evenings. All leagues are ASA sanctioned, for participants 18 and older, and include seven regular season games and a single elimination post-season tournament. Deadline to register and pay is 5 p.m., Thursday, July 31. Coed Recreational League play is Aug. 14–mid-October; Men’s Recreational League play is Aug. 11–mid-October. Cost is $300 per team, per league. Payment must be received at the time of registration; cash, check and credit or debit cards (American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa) are accepted. Registration forms available at the Farragut Town Hall at 11408 Municipal Center Drive across from Farragut Branch Post Office, on Town’s Web site at www.townoffarragut.org or by calling Ben Darnell, athletic and park coordinator, at 865-966-7057.

• Maryville College head football coach Tony Ierulli invites the Maryville community and friends of the football program to the 5th annual Maryville College Football Golf Tournament Saturday, July 26, at Royal Oaks Golf Course. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a noon lunch. Shotgun start will begin at 1. Cost for greens fee, cart, lunch, prizes and awards is $75. • Harvey Broome Group’s next outing is July 26: canoe float, Clinch River, Norris Dam to Highway 61. Put in below Norris Dam, take out at Highway 61, near Clinton. Distance is 11 miles. This is a relaxing float, with good current but no whitewater. Some waterfowl may be observed. Bring a sack lunch and even a cooler. Only very basic canoe skills are necessary for this trip. • All funds raised through the inaugural THE MAN RUN for Prostate Cancer Awareness is an event for adults and kids, THE MAN RUN is a 5K run/1-mile fun run/walk, with 5K run set for 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at Tyson Park. Fun run/walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Online registration is available at www.active.com. Individual and team entries available. • Farragut Softball League’s 2008 fall season begins the second week of August, with registration ending Thursday, July 31. Each league division includes seven regular season league games and a final tournament and award a tournament champion in each division. • CBFO Volleyball Fall Registration is now open to all girls 3rd-grade through rising high school senior. Cost is $80 per player. • Farragut High School Softball tryouts will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, July 24, at Bellamy Field.

• Tennessee Valley Fair once again will host the annual Cheerleading Competition beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Homer Hamilton Theatre at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville. Competition is open to all official squads from elementary, junior and senior high schools. Entry deadline is Aug. 18 and limited to first 35 entries received.
