Moran-Masters close to title at Brentwood Country Club

A pair of Knox County PGA professionals were mere inches from the 2008 Waxo Green Pro-Pro Championship at Brentwood Country Club in Brentwood July 22 among a 35-team field in a better ball format.

The team of Scott Masters (The Wee Course) and Fox Den Country Club head pro Scott Moran were tied after the 36-hole, two-day event with the team of Loren Personett/Audie Johnson after rounds of 62-61 to finish at 19-under-par 123.

The teams headed back to the par four 18th hole for a playoff.   Moran and Masters hit their approach shots onto the green and gave themselves a good chance for birdie.

Personett, the last to play, hit his ball within three feet.   After Moran and Masters each barely missed their birdie tries, Personett calmly drained his putt for the win.

Moran and Masters each earned $1,000.

The other Farragut/Knox County top 10 team finisher was Todd Branson/Walt Chapman (tied-seventh, 60-70-130/$300).

In Waxo-Green B-Division July 21-22 (par 72), Concord Golf Course head pro Keith McElroy teamed up with Samuel Newgent to finish tied-seventh (+2) and Byron Williams-Keith Harville (+4).
