‘Silver’ for HVA

The day got off to a rough start for the Hardin Valley Academy volleyball team, but the Lady Hawks captured Silver Division honors at the Courtside at Concord tourney Saturday, Sept. 28, at Concord Christian School.

The Lady Hawks, who recently finished second in the District 3-AAA regular-season standings, dropped their first two matches Saturday. But they rebounded to avenge a pool play loss to Oak Ridge in the tourney quarterfinals, where they won a 25-23, 25-23 thriller while erasing significant deficits in both sets.

Hardin Valley beat Alcoa and Chattanooga Christian to earn the sixth seed in the single-elimination quarterfinal match before beating ORHS.

A three-set win against Jefferson County was the Silver Division title match.

“This is great for us because we got to see and play against some great competition,” HVA junior setter Savanna Butler said. “Some of them are in our district, and when you see these teams over and over again, you get to know them.”
