AJGA, team results highlight ‘west’ golf

While there were no eye-popping local finishes at the American Junior Golf Association Knoxville Junior Open last week at Tennessee National in Loudon, a handful of Farragut High School and ex-FHS talents finished in the upper half of the boys and girls national fields.

Meanwhile, high school play is underway for both FHS and Bearden (results later in story).

In Loudon, Davis Bunn represented FHS’s highest finish for 54 holes, 20th, at 221. Webb School’s Grant Milner finished in the top 30 (223), followed by Brandon Rodgers (228) and Patrick Thomas (229) of FHS. Other westsiders included Mike Markiewicz of Knoxville Catholic (235).

On the girls side, Leigh Henderson of Webb finished 11th (233), followed by Alyssa Randolph, ex-FHS Lady Admiral, taking 12th (235).

In high school play, the FHS boys (305) used the foursome of Mitchell Thomas (low medalist, 72) Taylor Diegel (76), Jimmy Knight (78) and Elliott Wickenden (79) to win a four-way match last week versus Jefferson County, Halls and Webb at Fox Den Country Club.

The Lady Ads finished second to Jefferson County by one stroke behind Chelsie Passmore (42) and Stephanie Lockler (43).

Behind senior Owen Shirk, Bearden’s boys took fourth among a 20-team field at the recent Morristown Invitational and second to Hardin Valley Academy in a three-team meet. The BHS girls won its first match versus Rutledge at Willow Creek Aug. 8.
