New Yorker weighs in on Northshore

I am from Canton, N.Y., near the Canadian border.

I was visiting my sister when the accident on Northshore Road happened. The “mom” involved is my niece.

Shortly after the accident I followed my sister to my niece’s home for the purpose of dropping off a vehicle for her to use. I was appalled driving down Northshore Road.

Why are there no shoulders of any kind and no place to pull over without losing control of the vehicle?

That kind of road does not exist up here. We have shoulders wide enough to allow a car to pull over. If not for the fact that my niece and grand-nieces were securely fastened in, the outcome could have been very different.

My niece showed us a picture of the car when we arrived at the house. I never saw a car so badly damaged where the occupants managed to survive with minor bumps and bruises.

Please do something about that road before someone is badly hurt or killed. Just adding a shoulder would do much to improve the safety. And of course, always buckle up.

Thank you to all the concerned people who raced to help. Knoxville has many wonderful people. Your kindness and concern will not be forgotten.
