Store dresses with distinction

Coachman Clothiers has provided high-quality clothing to high-end clientele for more than 25 years.

Farragut resident Dean Carroll owns the specialty clothing shop, located in Franklin Square.

Carroll bought the 25-year-old business in May 2007. Coachman originally opened in Village Green shopping center in 1982.

“We do custom shirts, made-to-measure suits and sport coats and slacks … there’s so much that we do,” Carroll said.

“We carry exclusive brands and other national brand names. Product is coming from all over the world, from here in the U.S. to Europe, Italy and England,” he added.

“Once you come to the store, we have anything available,” Carroll said, running through a list of items ranging from cologne and ties to formalwear and golf attire.

Coachman was the first store in Knoxville to carry the Tommy Bahama line, and is now the exclusive Knoxville retailer for Southwick, Jhane Barnes, Tallia, Peerless and Southern Proper.

Coachman Clothiers also carries its own brand of exclusive clothing.

“We cater to the higher-end client. Most of what we have is a better grade of quality and tends to be more expensive,” Carroll said.

One such example of a common clothing item taken to a higher level is the “Royal Highnies” brand of underwear, 400 thread count pima cotton boxer shorts.

“We cater to the business community, from pastors and ministers to attorney and lawyers, from doctors down to someone who just needs a suit to wear on a Sunday or to a funeral or wedding,” he added.

In addition, the staff of Coachman can measure for custom suits.

“It’s all about professional service,” Carroll said.

Coachman Clothiers ships product across the country and offers lifetime alterations on garments purchased at the store.

Carroll’s future plans for the store include expanding new and exclusive lines.

Coachman Clothiers, 9700 Kingston Pike, Suite 13, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
