Former FHS band members to reunite

Calling all former Farragut High School band members.

Suzanne Cada, FHS Class of 1997, has planned a Farragut High School Band Alumni Reunion for Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20.

Cada originally planned the reunion for former band members from 1990 through 2000, but said all former band members and their families are welcome.

“I had my class reunion last summer and my friends and I were talking about how a lot of the people we spent time with were across different years because we had spent so much time with our friends in the band.

“I just decided that I really wanted to get people together and plan a reunion because I though that other people who were in the band probably felt the same way,” Cada said.

She set up a Web site for band members to RSVP for the reunion at The RSVP list is open so participants may see the names of those who will attend and those who have sent their regrets.

“Maybe 100 to 130 people have responded. About 80 people have said they are going to be able to make it. There are several who won’t because they are living all over. I think a lot of the people who are going to make are still living in the area or in the region, like South Carolina or Georgia. My sister is traveling all the way from California,” Cada said.

Band alumni are invited to meet at the Faragut versus McMinn County football game Friday, Sept. 19, at FHS.

“I am hoping we can get a section of the stadium reserved and have some signage,” Cada said.

“Afterward we are going to head to Wild Wing Café. Then on Saturday, I have planned a picnic at The Cove at Concord Park. All of the band directors are supposed to be joining us.

“I asked people to bring their children and their spouses. I am hoping the parents of band alumni will feel welcome and would like to come by. My own parents were very active in the band and many others were as well,” she added.

Cada recounts her FHS band days as some of her best memories.

“My very best friends were formed by being in the band. All of my best memories in high school were of being part of the marching band and the concert band.

“It was just an incredibly positive experience,” she said.

“I am also working on an alumni directory of contact information. The people who can’t make it to the reunion because they live so far away are really excited to get this directory so they can keep in touch.

“I am hoping that after this one we will do it on either a year-to-year or every-other-year basis. I am hoping it will catch on more as we continue to do it,” she added.
