This week marks the beginning of the third decade of publishing farragutpress.

Over the past 20 years numerous events have occurred that have directly and indirectly affected the lives of Farragut residents.

The nation has continually waged war with skirmishes such as Operation Preying Mantis in 1988 (Iran), Just Cause in 1989 (Panama) to larger conflicts such as Desert Storm in 1991 (Iraq), Restore Hope in 1992 (Somalia), Bosnian War in 1992, Afghanistan War in 2001 to the Iraq War beginning in 2002, to name a few.

There have been tragedies such as the Columbine shootings, the Oklahoma City Bombing, two attacks on the Twin Towers in New York, San Francisco earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.

There have been four presidents of the United States: Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton and George W. Bush III.

Locally, Farragut has seen two mayors: Robert Leonard and W. Edward “Eddy” Ford III; three County mayors: (executives) Dwight Kessell, Tom Schumpert and Mike Ragsdale; three governors: Ned Ray McWhorter, Don Sunquist and Phil Bredesen.

Farragut High School has won 148 and lost 81 football games, and won three state boys soccer, four state baseball, five state girls track, three state boys track, four state boys and girls golf and four state boys and girls cross country — 23 total — championships.

A lot has happen in the world and in Farragut, a lot more will happen, and farragutpress will continue to cover, as it has for 20 years, its small piece of the world to the best of its ability.

Thanks for reading.
