No. 1 Bearden stumbles, FHS 3-1
Lady Ads rout Houston, get Brandon 4-goal game

Despite opening Bearden Invitational play by losing to Father Ryan 2-0, the state’s No. 9-ranked Farragut Lady Admirals soccer team ripped McMinn County 7-2 Aug. 29 behind a four-goal performance — then pulled a mild upset.

Junior forward Morgan Brandon led the FHS charge with four goals versus McMinn.

“She’s very scrappy, never stops hustling,” FHS head coach Dennis Lindsay said of Brandon.

Skylar Brewer added two goals and Ruth Cook scored one.

Overall in the tourney, “I thought we did really well,” said Lindsay, as the Lady Ads, battling through several injuries, entered the week with a 3-1 record. “I’m pleased with the effort, the girls are working hard this year.”

Farragut then surprised No. 7-ranked Houston, blanking the Lady Mustangs 4-0 to close Invitational play Sunday, Aug. 30.

Sophomore forward Ashley Reveiz led the way in goals with two, followed by Whitney Newby and Lauren Ward with one apiece.

Assists came from Ward, Rachel Clark and Brandon.

Lindsay said Megan Buzzeo, senior goalkeeper, “is looking good.”

Against South-Doyle at SDHS Sept. 2, in a 7-1 win, Reveiz again led with two goals, followed by Newby, Brandon, Catherine Below, Clark and Lorena Wheatley with one each.

Ward led in assists with two.

Farragut’s home game versus Greeneville, scheduled Aug. 26 but postponed due to weather, has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4.
