Lady Ads volleyball 5th among 32 during annual Choo Choo Classic
Staff Reports - Thu, Sep, 11, 2008
Farragut varsity volleyball built on its KIL title with a fifth-place finish among a 32-team field at the annual Choo-Choo Classic in Chattanooga (East Ridge and Red Bank high schools) Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6.
Beating Morristown East 2-1 and Cleveland 2-0 in pool play before losing to GPS 0-2 Friday, the Lady Ads won its second-place pool Saturday morning with wins versus Ooltewah, St. Agnes and Soddy Daisy, all in straight games.
That landed FHS in the 16-team Gold Tournament where it beat Boyd-Buchanan 2-0 before losing to eventual Classic champ Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett 2-1
“I thought we had a good weekend and got better going into district play [beginning this week],” FHS head coach David Moore said, as his Lady Ads enter the week with a 14-2 record.
“Cara [Gregg] had a big weekend hitting. Ariel [Lebert] did the best hitting of the season, Kylann [Scheidt’s] setting and blocking were, as usual, excellent.
“The passing and defense of Dessi [Klonaris] and Kassie [Detchemendy] need to be mentioned,” Moore added. “All 10 players played key roles in the good weekend.”
The Lady Ads also claimed what Moore labeled a “big win” versus Anderson County at ACHS Aug. 28 in straight games (3-0), then swept Knoxville Catholic 3-0 in FHS’s Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium Thursday, Sept. 4.
Farragut’s junior varsity team, led by coach Brendon Cleer, went undefeated during a “playday” Saturday at Heritage
