CAK forms ‘Health Council’

Judy Cunningham, left, and Marie Gerrick display Christian Academy of Knoxville’s new water bottles at the Elementary School Picnic. The blue and gold bottles are approved for use in the classroom and promote proper hydration. Cunningham and Gerrick are volunteers on the school’s new Health Council, which is committed to providing CAK students with good nutrition. As of Sept. 12, a parent-operated salad bar will be available each Friday in the CAK Elementary School lunch line to accompany pizza servings. The salad bar options will include romaine lettuce, tomato, carrots, broccoli, cheese, sunflower seeds and ranch dressing. The salad bar serves as an attempt to provide students with nutritious lunch options to help reach the FDA’s recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. A “Fruit of the Month” selection will accompany salad bar. In addition to providing healthy food alternatives, the Health Council strives to promote an often overlooked component of good health – proper hydration.
