FHS cross country girls champs

Chelsea Jacobs’ Farragut High School girls cross country team made early-season noise by winning the Victor Ashe/Knox Medicine Invitational Aug. 30, edging Webb 54-55.
Junior Alex Newby paced the Lady Ad charge with a second-place finish (20:40) followed by freshman Allison Jones in sixth (21:36). “I was very pleased with the girls this race, it was their first race and they competed well,” coach Jacobs said. “I was very happy with Allison Jones. She is a freshman this year and stepped up in her first high school race.”
Farragut’s boys took third-place led by junior Kenta Nolin’s seventh-place effort (17:59).
At the Cherokee Classic Sept. 6, Newby again led as Farragutwas second behind champ Webb 67-76. Newby claimed third-place (19:53).
The FHS boys were fourth, as Nolin took 10th-place (17:20).
