FHS volleyball 4-AAA regular season streak ends at 84

Perhaps no westside high school athletic team has been so dominant in its district this millennium as David Moore’s Farragut Lady Admirals in 4-AAA volleyball.

His team’s 84-match regular season district winning streak, dating back to 2002, was snapped by Maryville Thursday, Sept. 25, at Heritage High School.

“Maryville’s a good team, they played us close the last time we played ’em,” Moore said of the 25-23, 28-26 defeat. “It was one of those matches that could have gone either way. We needed to make one more play. They did.

“We’re a little disappointed, but like I told ’em after the match, ‘It’s tournament time that matters the most,’” Moore added.

Farragut nevertheless is having one of its best seasons ever record-wise, standing at 31-3 overall, 9-1 in 4-AAA, entering a week featuring FHS’s annual Sunset Tournament Saturday, Oct. 4.
