BHS boys 3rd at A.F. Bridges meet; Lady Ads 3rd at Volunteer Invitational


Led by Sam Shaughnessy’s sixth-place finish among a field of 228 in his 5K run (16:45.04), the powerful Bearden Bulldogs cross country team finished third in the 28-team A.F. Bridges Invitational in Nashville Saturday, Sept. 27.

Six other Bulldogs finished in the top 36. (More details later in this story).

Meanwhile, Farragut’s Lady Admirals captured third-place among 12 teams at the Volunteer Cross Country Invitational at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville Saturday.

Alex Newby’s second-place finish (19:59.11) led FHS, followed by nine other Lady Admirals in the top 64 in the field of 108. (More details later in this story).


Farragut’s boys finished sixth at Volunteer among a 16-team field, led by Kenta Nolin’s 13th-place finish (17:19.82) among 146 runners.

Back in Nashville, Bearden’s Lady Bulldogs captured eighth-place in a field of 21 led by Rebecca Stover’s third-place effort (19:58.79) among 163 individual competitors.

BHS BOYS, FHS GIRLS

Tyler Freeman finished 14th for Bearden in Nashville, followed closely by Peter Migun in 15th, Drew Crawford 29th, Billy Miller 32nd and Kyle Walters 36th.

Other top Lady Admirals finishers at Volunteer were Allison Jones 27th, Margo Sneed 31st, Ciera Karvelas 34th, Alison Woodford 36th, Kathryn Skaggs 37th, Peri Winborne 49th, Joanna Cannata 55th and Courtney Vandermeersch 64th.

FHS BOYS, BHS GIRLS

Also among the top 90 at Volunteer for the FHS boys were Connor Schwartz 36th, Kyle Branson 49th, Tom Jarvis 50th, Zach Royster 57th, John Terry 59th, Adam Carr 61st, Philip Stephens 70th and Todd Lathrop 81st.

The other top 100 BHS girls in Nashville were Ruth Hahn 50th, Ali Migun 66th, Jackie Shultz 70th, Jennifer Brown 94th and Lily Winchester 98th.

Top 10 runners from Knoxville Catholic and Hardin Valley Academy boys teams at Volunteer were Matt Interman of HVA 60th and Austin Zinkle of KCHS 80th.

Top Lady Irish and Lady Hawks were Ashley West of Catholic, ninth (20:56.82) and Sadie Yinger of HVA 23rd.
