• Upcoming outings of Harvey Broome Group, Tennessee Chapter of the Sierra Club: Oct. 25-26. Backpack, Oconaluftee section, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Begins on Mingus Creek Trail for six miles to site No. 52 on Newton Bald for a total of six miles the first day. Sunday will follow the Thomas Divide Trail to Deeplow Gap to Mingus Creek for total of 10.9 miles the second day. Rated difficult due to first day climb and length of second day. • Town of Farragut wrapped up its 2008 Fall Volleyball season with competitive, intermediate and recreational champs at Mayor Bob Leonard Park off Watt Road the week beginning Sept. 22. Newly crowned fall league champs are: Competitive League, Sir Ving; Intermediate League, Cove Crew; Recreational League, Cuttin’ in the Sand. The 2009 volleyball season will begin in the spring with registration starting in mid-February.
