• Mercy Health Partners is sponsoring the City of Knoxville’s 2008 CrossKnox 15k Road Race starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, and beginning at the Alex Haley Statue in Morningside Park. The 9.3-mile CrossKnox race is run completely on greenways, ending at Bearden Elementary School in West Knoxville. An addition to the run this year’s event will include a 5K walk to World’s Fair Park through the new Second Creek Greenway. Early registration fee is $20; after Nov. 10, $25. • YWCA Knoxville will host its Annual Race Against Racism 5K Run /1 Mile Walk Saturday, Jan. 17, at the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center in East Knoxville. Sign-in and registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the race will kickoff at 1 p.m. Route runs along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and other historical markers. The day includes exhibitors, entertainment, speakers, food. Honorary Chair is Daedra Charles-Furlow, UT Lady Vols basketball assistant coach. Registration is $15 per person on a team of five or more, $12 per child under 15 years of age, $20 per individual before Jan. 9, and $25 thereafter. • Thompson Cancer Survival Center’s 15th annual BUDDY’S Race Against Cancer, Sunday, Nov. 16, at World’s Fair Park features a 5K Walk ‘n Run and one-mile “Walk in the Park.” Race day registration begins at 1 p.m. A tribute to cancer survivors will begin at 2:15. The 5K Walk ‘n Run and one-mile walk will start at 3 p.m. Awards will be given. Proceeds benefit Thompson’s Cancer Outreach Services program. Entry fees are $30 for adults (age 19 and over), $15 for youth (age 18 and under). Individual participants may register until Friday, Oct. 31.
