KCHS teams sweep cross country region - Thu, Oct, 30, 2008
Knoxville Catholic’s girls and boys cross country teams raced past the opposition to capture Region 2 Class A/AA titles at Victor Ashe Park Oct. 22.
Meanwhile, Farragut’s girls took second to Oak Ridge (26-68) in the region AAA meet, earning a Class AAA State Meet trip Nov. 1 Nashville, while the Bearden boys also earned a state trip by finishing third.
Leading the Lady Irish was region individual champ Joanna Thompson (20:54.0) and runner-up Ashley West (21:26.2). Close behind was fourth-place KCHS runner Elyse Eilerman, followed by fifth-place Stephanie Windle and sixth-place Madison Fox.
Also earning All-region honors from Catholic was Allison Giecek in 10th-place. Allison Burg of CAK finished ninth, earning All-region honors and a trip to state.
Catholic’s boys also claimed the top individual crown, courtesy of Gideon Wilson (17:57.7).
Irish runner Ricky Schulte was fifth, followed in order by teammates Austin Zinkle, Kevin Rumbolt and Dave Sturchio.
Farragut’s Alex Newby was Class AAA girls runner-up (19:14.2), with Bearden’s Rebecca Stover also earning All-region honors with her fourth-place effort.
Alexis Hewitt was Hardin Valley’s top finisher (13th).
Bearden’s top boy was sixth-place Sam Shaughnessy. Bulldog teammate Tyler Freeman was 10th.
Farragut’s Kenta Nolin was top Admiral, finishing 15th.
