Big doses of Porter too much for FHS in 4-AAA title tilt

It was business as usual for the Bearden High School Lady SoccerDogs as the team kept its winning streak going with a 3-1 District 4-AAA tournament championship win over westside rival Farragut Thursday, Oct. 23, on Bruce Allender Field.

After the final buzzer the two teams, with little fanfare, accepted their respective trophies and posed for routine pictures before simply packing up and heading home to await their Region 2-AAA matchups.

Bearden (18-2-1 entering the week) hosted 3-AAA runner-up West in a region semifinal elimination game Tuesday, Oct. 28 (after press deadline).

Farragut (16-4-2 entering the week) traveled to District 3-AAA champion Oak Ridge in the other region semifinal Oct. 28.

The winners meet in the 2-AAA title game tonight, Thursday, Oct. 30.

Sectional play is Saturday, Nov. 1, with the eight statewide sectional winners advancing to next week’s Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Class AAA state tourney in Chattanooga.

The Lady SoccerDogs have won the past two AAA state crowns.

In claiming the district tourney title, Bearden controlled the game from the onset with a quick score by senior forward Amy Porter, who at game’s end was credited with all three SoccerDog scores.

Farragut’s score came off a Mary Cathryn Suhocki direct kick that came off the hands of Bearden goalkeeper Michelle Heath with 1:55 left in the contest.

Contributing to Bearden’s 7-0 victory against Lenoir City in the 4-AAA semfinals Tuesday, Oct. 21, Porter set a new program record with her 88th career BHS goal. A transfer from McMinn County to begin the 2006 season, Porter’s overall career goal total reached 113 when setting the team mark.

The Lady Admirals edged Maryville 1-0 in the other 4-AAA semifinal Oct. 21 at FHS, using an Ashley Reveiz goal, assisted by Alyssa Dresen.
