Ott’s BBQ serves ‘Cafe’ breakfast

Reincarnated Farragut restaurant Ott’s Barbecue is picking up where Court Café left customers when it closed in September.

Ott’s is serving Court Café breakfast from 6:30 to 10 a.m. each morning.

“Court Café had a big breakfast crowd for years,” Bill Johnson, Ott’s co-owner, said.

“As you know, they sold their property and closed. We had the restaurant there and decided we would go ahead and serve breakfast and take care of those customers that didn’t have any place to go.

“And they’re flocking in there, that’s for sure,” he added.

“We have just been totally swamped with it,” Ott’s co-owner Mike Masters said.

“We’re covered up with it. There’s a need for it,” Johnson said.

Ott’s is not serving Café recipes, but has the same types of foods the landmark restaurant served for more than 30 years.

“We’re serving the biscuits and gravy; we’re serving ham and biscuits; sausage and biscuits; sausage, egg and biscuits; sausage, egg, cheese and biscuits; fried eggs; scrambled eggs; toast; juice; coffee, the whole thing,” Johnson said.

“Everything down here is homemade. We have no recipes, but we have their customers,” Masters said.

“We do have all the old, loyal customers down here … they come in every day. We’re excited about it,” he added.

Masters and Johnson are looking to possibly hire former Café employees to prepare food.

Court Café closed its doors Sept. 27.

“They’re just an old faithful, been around Farragut forever. We all ate there and it was good. We’re just trying to pick up the slack, and it also gave us an opportunity to open and do another meal we didn’t have before,” Johnson said.

“To have it be received so well has been great, and the food’s wonderful,” he added.
