No threepeat
KD-B ends Lady SoccerDawgs’ year in Sectional

A bad situation in the Region 2-AAA region final against Oak Ridge became horrible in Kingsport two days later.

Bearden’s Lady Soccer-Dawgs, No. 1-ranked in Class AAA and two-time defending state champion, will not threepeat after losing to Dobyns-Bennett 2-1 Saturday, Nov. 1, in Sectional play.

Eric Turner’s Lady SoccerDawgs end 2008 with a 19-4-1 record.

Though losing the region final to No. 5-ranked Oak Ridge 1-0 at BHS’s Bruce Allender Field Thursday, Oct. 30, Bearden dominated in shots 21-5 edge.

“It’s frustrating, but that’s soccer,” Turner said after the region loss. “We had plenty of opportunities but we didn’t finish. … They had a great gameplan, they played awesome.”

Oak Ridge, meanwhile, eventually earned a trip to the TSSAA state tournament with a 21-3-1 record

Lady Wildcat Rachel Johnson knocked home the only goal when an ORHS shot, deflected by Bearden defender Taylor Cravanas, went right to the open Johnson, who scored from about 8 yards out with 36:10 left in the game.

Four BHS seniors saw their careers end Saturday: Amy Porter, Kate Beil, Caroline Lutz and Tessa Batchelor.
