‘Most enjoyable’ FHS season ends in region at Oak Ridge

An outstanding season isn’t always measured in state championship trophies and once-in-a-lifetime superstars.

Farragut Lady Admirals soccer, ranked No. 4 statewide, had its 2008 season ended by No. 5 Oak Ridge 3-0 in the Region 2-AAA semifinals Thursday, Oct. 28, at ORHS.

Yet Farragut head coach Dennis Lindsay proclaimed 2008 “probably the most enjoyable season I’ve had, the kids were fantastic this year. Very close-knit group, very nice.”

Farragut ends with a 16-5-2 record.

Also proclaiming his team overachieved this season, Lindsay said he’s confident his 2009 squad will carry on the leadership displayed by 2008 seniors Mindy Hopkins, (sweeper), Ruth Cook (defender), Whitney Newby (midfielder/forward), Megan Buzzeo (goalkeeper) and midfielders Devon Shanklin and Alyssa Dresen. “The players now see how it is to have good leadership.”

Ending with a 14-8 edge in shots-on-goal, Oak Ridge (21-3-1) went on to earn a trip to this week’s AAA state tournament.
