Farragut volleyball wins one of three in state tourney

Considering David Moore said he “didn’t exactly know how far” his Farragut High volleyball team could go entering 2008, things didn’t turn out too bad.

The program’s fifth Class AAA state tourney appearance in seven years — including another season of dominance between Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities — ended with one state match victory in Murfreesboro and a 48-7 final record.

“It was good to get that first one,” coach Moore said of an opening round win versus Houston Wednesday, Oct. 29 (25-23, 25-18, 25-10). “Another great year. Going in I didn’t know exactly how far we could go.”

Losses to Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett (12-25, 20-25, 18-25) and eventual state champ Independence (15-25, 24-26, 21-25) Oct. 30 ended the season.

Seniors Dessi Klonaris, Cara Gregg, Julia Mathes, Natalia Hayes, Ariel Lebert and Melissa Eggert ended their FHS careers in Murfreesboro.
