• Farragut High School Volleyball program handed out varsity and junior varsity team awards during its recent banquet: Varsity All-District 4-AAA honorees were Kylann Scheidt, Co-MVP; Cara Gregg, Best Hitter, along with Ariel Lebert and Julia Mathes on All-District team. Varsity team awards: Mathes, Karen Beam Award; Natalia Hayes, Most Improved; Dessi Klonaris, Unsung Hero; Melissa Eggert, Scholar Athlete award {4.2 GPA}; Ariel Lebert, four-year letterman, 7&8; Scheidt and Gregg, Co-MVPs. Junior Varsity: Kayla Hartman, MVP.

• Farragut Middle School Boys and Girls Basketball teams will be hosting its third annual Christmas “Drop and Dine” Parents Night Out from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, at FMS cafeteria. School will feed child and provide games and crafts. Cost is $20 per child. For more info, call 865-207-2321.

• Furman soccer forward Martha Hall, former Knoxville Catholic standout, has won Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Freshman of the Year honors. Hall led the Paladins and ranked among the league’s leaders with 10 goals and five assists in her first collegiate season. She also was Second Team All-Conference.

• Farragut High School Baseball team’s chili cookoff is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in the FHS Commons, during the first-ever meeting between rivals Hardin Valley Academy and Farragut basketball teams at FHS. Cookoff judges include husband-wife principals Mike Reynolds of FHS and Sallee Reynolds of HVA. Proceeds benefit FHS Dugout Club field improvements and player needs.

• Mercy Health Partners is sponsoring the City of Knoxville’s 2008 CrossKnox 15k Road Race starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, beginning at the Alex Haley Statue in Morningside Park. The 9.3-mile CrossKnox race is run completely on greenways, ending at Bearden Elementary. An addition to the run this year’s event will include a 5K walk to World’s Fair Park through the new Second Creek Greenway. Registration is $25. • YWCA Knoxville will host its Annual Race Against Racism 5K Run /1 Mile Walk Saturday, Jan. 17, at YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center in East Knoxville. Sign-in and registration will begin at 11:30 a.m; race at 1 p.m. Route runs along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and other historical markers. Day includes exhibitors, entertainment and food. To register, log onto www.ywcaknox.com or pick up registration forms at the YWCA. Registration is $15 per person on a team of five or more, $12 per child under 15 years of age, $20 per individual before Jan. 9, and $25 thereafter. Sponsorships and donations accepted.
